About the United States

The United States has 50 states, home to about 341.1 million people across 9,848,986 km² (3,802,713 sq mi).

The largest state by area is Alaska, at 1,724,220 km², about 18% of the total; the smallest is Rhode Island, at 4,001 km².

California has the most people, about 39.4 million (12% of the total), and Wyoming the fewest, about 588,753. The most densely populated is New Jersey, with about 423 people per km².
