About Central America

Central America has 7 countries, home to about 51.1 million people across 521,876 km² (201,497 sq mi).

The largest country by area is Nicaragua, at 130,370 km², about 25% of the total; the smallest is El Salvador, at 21,041 km².

Guatemala has the most people, about 18.3 million (36% of the total), and Belize the fewest, about 421,960. The most densely populated is El Salvador, with about 301 people per km².

None of the 7 countries is landlocked: every one has a coastline.
