About Michigan

Michigan has 83 counties, 280 cities, 253 villages, 69 townships and 212 Census-designated communities, and about 10,127,884 people (2025 estimate) on 146,620 km² (56,610 sq mi) of land. The capital is Lansing; the largest city is Detroit, with 649,095 people. It borders Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin, and the Canadian province of Ontario.

Wayne County is the most populous county (1,769,038 people) and Keweenaw County the least (2,186); Marquette County is the largest by land area (4,685 km²) and Benzie County the smallest (828 km²).
