About Ohio

Ohio has 88 counties, 253 cities, 670 villages and 338 Census-designated communities, and about 11,900,510 people (2025 estimate) on 105,824 km² (40,859 sq mi) of land. Columbus is both the capital and the largest city, with 938,396 people. It borders Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, and the Canadian province of Ontario.

Franklin County is the most populous county (1,361,536 people) and Vinton County the least (12,645); Ashtabula County is the largest by land area (1,819 km²) and Lake County the smallest (594 km²).
