About Washington

Washington has 39 counties, 212 cities, 69 towns and 358 Census-designated communities, and about 8,001,020 people (2025 estimate) on 172,119 km² (66,455 sq mi) of land. The capital is Olympia; the largest city is Seattle, with 784,777 people. It borders Idaho and Oregon, and the Canadian province of British Columbia.

King County is the most populous county (2,344,939 people) and Garfield County the least (2,416); Okanogan County is the largest by land area (13,639 km²) and San Juan County the smallest (450 km²).
