The capital is Annapolis; the largest city is Baltimore, with 569,997 people. It borders Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

Montgomery County is the most populous county (1,074,582 people) and Kent County the least (19,565); Frederick County is the largest by land area (1,711 km²) and City of Baltimore the smallest (210 km²).
