About Louisiana

Louisiana has 64 parishes, 69 cities, 128 towns, 107 villages and 184 Census-designated communities, and about 4,618,189 people (2025 estimate) on 111,930 km² (43,216 sq mi) of land. The capital is Baton Rouge; the largest city is New Orleans, with 362,154 people. It borders Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas.

East Baton Rouge Parish is the most populous parish (456,180 people) and Tensas Parish the least (3,700); Vernon Parish is the largest by land area (3,436 km²) and Orleans Parish the smallest (439 km²).
