About Connecticut

Connecticut has 9 planning regions, 20 cities, 145 towns, 10 boroughs and 184 Census-designated communities, and about 3,688,496 people (2025 estimate) on 12,542 km² (4,842 sq mi) of land. The capital is Hartford; the largest city is Bridgeport, with 152,273 people. It borders Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island.

Capitol Planning Region is the most populous planning region (994,115 people) and Northeastern Connecticut Planning Region the least (98,096); Capitol Planning Region is the largest by land area (2,661 km²) and Greater Bridgeport Planning Region the smallest (363 km²).
