About Minnesota

Minnesota has 87 counties, 853 cities and 60 Census-designated communities, and about 5,830,405 people (2025 estimate) on 206,245 km² (79,632 sq mi) of land. The capital is Saint Paul; the largest city is Minneapolis, with 430,324 people. It borders Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin, and the Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Ontario.

Hennepin County is the most populous county (1,284,784 people) and Traverse County the least (3,130); St. Louis County is the largest by land area (16,183 km²) and Ramsey County the smallest (394 km²).
