About New Mexico

New Mexico has 33 counties, 37 cities, 20 towns, 48 villages and 420 Census-designated communities, and about 2,125,498 people (2025 estimate) on 314,199 km² (121,313 sq mi) of land. The capital is Santa Fe; the largest city is Albuquerque, with 556,588 people. It borders Arizona, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas and Utah, and the Mexican states of Sonora and Chihuahua.

Bernalillo County is the most populous county (667,601 people) and Harding County the least (617); Catron County is the largest by land area (17,934 km²) and Los Alamos County the smallest (283 km²).
