Campeche has 13 municipalities and about 967,098 people (2025) on 57,508 km² (22,204 sq mi). Campeche is both the capital and the largest city, with 249,623 people (2020). It borders Quintana Roo, Tabasco, Yucatán, Belize and Guatemala.
Campeche is the most populous municipality (294,335 people) and Palizada the least (8,534); Calakmul is the largest by area (13,987 km²) and Seybaplaya the smallest (290 km²).

The state's total on the Mexico map, 968,673, also counts the 1,575 people INEGI estimates in collective dwellings and without a dwelling, which it publishes only for the whole state. Towns are INEGI's localities with their 2020 Census population: every municipal seat and every other locality of 5,000 people or more.
