About Nayarit
Nayarit has 20 municipalities and about 1,289,318 people (2025) on 28,102 km² (10,850 sq mi). Tepic is both the capital and the largest city, with 371,387 people (2020). It borders Durango, Jalisco, Sinaloa and Zacatecas.
Tepic is the most populous municipality (430,286 people) and San Pedro Lagunillas the least (7,688); Del Nayar is the largest by area (5,142 km²) and Tuxpan the smallest (314 km²).

The state's total on the Mexico map, 1,299,075, also counts the 9,757 people INEGI estimates in collective dwellings and without a dwelling, which it publishes only for the whole state. Towns are INEGI's localities with their 2020 Census population: every municipal seat and every other locality of 5,000 people or more.
