Mexico City has 16 boroughs and about 9,165,819 people (2025) on 1,485 km² (573 sq mi). Mexico City is both the capital and the largest city, with 9,209,944 people (2020). It borders Morelos and State of Mexico.

Iztapalapa is the most populous borough (1,877,417 people) and Milpa Alta the least (154,384); Tlalpan is the largest by area (315 km²) and Iztacalco the smallest (23 km²).

The city's total on the Mexico map, 9,216,407, also counts the 50,588 people INEGI estimates in collective dwellings and without a dwelling, which it publishes only for the whole city. Towns are INEGI's localities with their 2020 Census population: Mexico City as a whole, as on the Mexico map, and every locality of 5,000 people or more.
