Guerrero has 85 municipalities and about 3,404,404 people (2025) on 63,604 km² (24,558 sq mi). The capital is Chilpancingo; the largest city is Acapulco, with 658,609 people (2020). It borders Michoacán, Morelos, Oaxaca, Puebla and State of Mexico.

Acapulco de Juárez is the most populous municipality (767,454 people) and General Canuto A. Neri the least (5,232); Coyuca de Catalán is the largest by area (3,357 km²) and Santa Cruz del Rincón the smallest (89 km²).

The state's total on the Mexico map, 3,418,902, also counts the 14,498 people INEGI estimates in collective dwellings and without a dwelling, which it publishes only for the whole state. Towns are INEGI's localities with their 2020 Census population: every municipal seat and every other locality of 5,000 people or more.
