About Jalisco

Jalisco has 125 municipalities and about 8,633,761 people (2025) on 78,601 km² (30,348 sq mi). Guadalajara is both the capital and the largest city, with 1,385,621 people (2020). It borders Aguascalientes, Colima, Guanajuato, Michoacán, Nayarit and Zacatecas.

Zapopan is the most populous municipality (1,578,432 people) and Santa María del Oro the least (1,196); Mezquitic is the largest by area (3,364 km²) and Techaluta de Montenegro the smallest (79 km²).

The state's total on the Mexico map, 8,679,851, also counts the 46,090 people INEGI estimates in collective dwellings and without a dwelling, which it publishes only for the whole state. Towns are INEGI's localities with their 2020 Census population: every municipal seat and every other locality of 5,000 people or more.
