About Nuevo León
Nuevo León has 51 municipalities and about 6,274,840 people (2025) on 64,156 km² (24,771 sq mi). Monterrey is both the capital and the largest city, with 1,142,952 people (2020). It borders Coahuila, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas, Zacatecas and United States.
Monterrey is the most populous municipality (1,135,843 people) and Parás the least (818); Galeana is the largest by area (7,068 km²) and Abasolo the smallest (47 km²).

Populations are INEGI's Encuesta Intercensal 2025 estimates for 15 October 2025 of the people living in private dwellings; the 51 municipalities add up to the state's 6,274,840. The state's total on the Mexico map, 6,291,899, also counts the 17,059 people INEGI estimates in collective dwellings and without a dwelling, which it publishes only for the whole state. Towns are INEGI's localities with their 2020 Census population: every municipal seat and every other locality of 5,000 people or more.
