Sinaloa has 20 municipalities and about 3,061,863 people (2025) on 57,382 km² (22,155 sq mi). Culiacán is both the capital and the largest city, with 808,416 people (2020). It borders Chihuahua, Durango, Nayarit and Sonora.
Culiacán is the most populous municipality (943,091 people) and Cosalá the least (16,247); Sinaloa is the largest by area (6,311 km²) and Eldorado the smallest (579 km²).

The state's total on the Mexico map, 3,102,935, also counts the 41,072 people INEGI estimates in collective dwellings and without a dwelling, which it publishes only for the whole state. Towns are INEGI's localities with their 2020 Census population: every municipal seat and every other locality of 5,000 people or more.
