Guanajuato has 46 municipalities and about 6,423,384 people (2025) on 30,607 km² (11,817 sq mi). The capital is Guanajuato; the largest city is León, with 1,579,803 people (2020). It borders Jalisco, Michoacán, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí and Zacatecas.
León is the most populous municipality (1,811,061 people) and Atarjea the least (5,407); San Felipe is the largest by area (3,007 km²) and Pueblo Nuevo the smallest (60 km²).
