About Western Australia

Western Australia has 137 local government areas and about 3,044,382 people (2025) on 2,526,632 km² (975,538 sq mi). Perth is both the capital and the largest city, with 2,043,762 people (2021). It borders South Australia and Northern Territory.

Stirling is the most populous local government area (254,821 people) and Murchison the least (111); East Pilbara is the largest by area (372,296 km²) and Peppermint Grove the smallest (1 km²).
