About Switzerland

Switzerland has 26 cantons and about 9,127,125 people (2025) on 39,996 km² (15,443 sq mi). The capital is Bern; the largest city is Zurich, with 440,935 people. It borders Germany, France, Italy, Austria and Liechtenstein.

Zurich is the most populous canton (1,632,918 people) and Appenzell Innerrhoden the least (16,890); Graubünden is the largest by area (7,105 km²) and Basel-Stadt the smallest (37 km²).
