The Canton of Vaud has 10 districts and about 863,650 people (2025) on 2,823 km² (1,090 sq mi). Lausanne is both the capital and the largest city, with 145,596 people. It borders Bern, Fribourg, Valais, Neuchâtel, Geneva and France.

Lausanne is the most populous district (175,881 people) and Broye-Vully the least (48,483); Jura-Nord vaudois is the largest by area (701 km²) and Ouest lausannois the smallest (26 km²).
