The Canton of Neuchâtel has 24 municipalities and about 180,365 people (2025) on 717 km² (277 sq mi). Neuchâtel is both the capital and the largest city, with 45,466 people. It borders Bern, Fribourg, Vaud, Jura and France.
Neuchâtel is the most populous municipality (45,466 people) and Les Planchettes the least (187); Val-de-Travers is the largest by area (125 km²) and Cortaillod the smallest (4 km²).
