The Canton of Uri has 19 municipalities and about 38,581 people (2025) on 1,057 km² (408 sq mi). Altdorf is both the capital and the largest city, with 10,618 people. It borders Bern, Schwyz, Obwalden, Nidwalden, Glarus, Graubünden, Ticino and Valais.

Altdorf is the most populous municipality (10,618 people) and Realp the least (157); Silenen is the largest by area (145 km²) and Altdorf the smallest (10 km²).
