The Canton of Bern has 10 districts and about 1,069,074 people (2025) on 5,820 km² (2,247 sq mi). Bern is both the capital and the largest city, with 138,562 people. It borders Lucerne, Uri, Obwalden, Nidwalden, Fribourg, Solothurn, Aargau, Vaud, Valais, Neuchâtel, Jura and France.

Bern-Mittelland is the most populous district (430,771 people) and Obersimmental-Saanen the least (16,863); Interlaken-Oberhasli is the largest by area (1,229 km²) and Biel/Bienne the smallest (98 km²).
