Amazonas has 62 municipalities and about 4,360,926 people (2026) on 1,558,704 km² (601,819 sq mi). Manaus is both the capital and the largest city, with 2,327,101 people. It borders Acre, Mato Grosso, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela.

Manaus is the most populous municipality (2,327,101 people) and Japurá the least (9,527); Barcelos is the largest by area (122,453 km²) and Iranduba the smallest (2,332 km²).
