Styria has 13 districts and about 1,271,764 people (2026) on 16,400 km² (6,332 sq mi). Graz is both the capital and the largest city, with 306,971 people. It borders Burgenland, Carinthia, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Salzburg and Slovenia.

Graz is the most populous district (306,971 people) and Murau the least (26,659); Liezen is the largest by area (3,318 km²) and Graz the smallest (128 km²).
