About Austria
Austria has 9 states and about 9,215,956 people (2026) on 83,885 km² (32,388 sq mi). Vienna is both the capital and the largest city, with 2,040,914 people. It borders Germany, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
Vienna is the most populous state (2,040,914 people) and Burgenland the least (301,695); Lower Austria is the largest by area (19,180 km²) and Vienna the smallest (415 km²).
