There is no single official list of Latin American countries. We count the 20 countries of the Americas whose main language is Spanish, Portuguese or French: Mexico, the six Spanish-speaking countries of Central America, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Haiti, and the ten Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries of South America. Belize, Guyana, Suriname and the English-speaking Caribbean islands are shown as neighbours; Puerto Rico, a US territory, is in grey, and French Guiana is part of France.
