The 9 countries of Southern Asia in the United Nations geoscheme (M49): Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Iran is counted here because the UN counts it here; it is on our Middle East map too. The eight members of SAARC, the region's own organisation, are the same countries without Iran.
