About Scotland
Scotland has 32 council areas and about 5,545,500 people (2025) on 77,900 km² (30,077 sq mi). The capital is Edinburgh; the largest city is Glasgow, with 617,794 people (2022). It borders England.
Glasgow City is the most populous council area (654,330 people) and Orkney Islands the least (21,920); Highland is the largest by area (25,653 km²) and Dundee City the smallest (60 km²).
