About England

England has 153 counties and unitary authorities and about 58,834,812 people (2025) on 130,310 km² (50,313 sq mi). London is both the capital and the largest city, with 8,799,728 people (2021). It borders Scotland and Wales.

Kent is the most populous county (1,652,769 people) and Isles of Scilly the least (2,299); North Yorkshire is the largest by area (8,037 km²) and City of London the smallest (3 km²).
