This map follows the US Census Bureau's Middle Atlantic division: New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. Wider definitions of the Mid-Atlantic also take in Delaware, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia and West Virginia.

New York is the most populous state (20,002,427 people) and New Jersey the least (9,548,215); New York is the largest by land area (122,049 km²) and New Jersey the smallest (19,049 km²).
