About Alberta

Alberta has 19 census divisions, 19 cities, 106 towns, 132 villages and 3 other municipalities on this map, and about 5,029,346 people (2025 estimate) on 634,658 km² (245,043 sq mi) of land. The capital is Edmonton; the largest city is Calgary, with 1,612,834 people. It borders British Columbia, Northwest Territories and Saskatchewan, and the US state of Montana.

Division No. 6 is the most populous census division (1,954,845 people) and Division No. 4 the least (9,461); Division No. 17 is the largest by land area (190,434 km²) and Division No. 8 the smallest (9,890 km²).
