About Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico has 78 municipios and 292 Census-designated communities, and about 3,184,835 people (2025 estimate) on 8,869 km² (3,424 sq mi) of land. San Juan is both the capital and the largest city, with 322,854 people (2020 Census).

San Juan Municipio is the most populous municipio (329,737 people) and Culebra Municipio the least (1,735); Arecibo Municipio is the largest by land area (326 km²) and Cataño Municipio the smallest (13 km²).
