About Italy

Italy has 20 regions and about 58,942,828 people (2026) on 302,110 km² (116,645 sq mi). Rome is both the capital and the largest city, with 2,745,062 people. It borders France, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, San Marino and Vatican City.

Lombardy is the most populous region (10,065,694 people) and Aosta Valley the least (122,554); Sicily is the largest by area (25,835 km²) and Aosta Valley the smallest (3,261 km²).
