Dhaka is the most populous district (14,734,701 people) and Bandarban the least (481,106); Rangamati is the largest by area (5,643 km²) and Narayanganj the smallest (706 km²).

The 64 districts form 8 divisions: Barishal (6), Chattogram (11), Dhaka (13), Khulna (10), Mymensingh (4), Rajshahi (8), Rangpur (8), Sylhet (4).
