Groups and sources
Regions are the four Census regions of the US Census Bureau: Northeast (9 states), Midwest (12), South (16) and West (13). The District of Columbia, also in the South, is not part of the quiz.
Census regions are statistical, so a few states sit where everyday usage may differ: Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Oklahoma and Texas are in the South; Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and the Dakotas are in the Midwest; Alaska and Hawaii are in the West.
