Groups and sources
All 197 countries of our world quizzes: the 193 UN member states plus Vatican City, Palestine, Kosovo and Taiwan. Territories such as Greenland, Puerto Rico and Hong Kong are not included.
Continents follow our other world quizzes, which are based on the UN geoscheme: Central America and the Caribbean belong to North America, and Oceania is Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific island countries.
Each capital belongs to its country's continent. For the transcontinental countries, a second continent counts only where it makes sense for the city: Moscow is in Europe, Astana in Asia, Cairo in Africa and Jakarta in Asia. Ankara accepts Asia, where it stands, and Europe, where our quizzes place Turkey; Tbilisi, Baku, Yerevan and Nicosia accept Europe or Asia like their countries, and Dili accepts Asia or Oceania like Timor-Leste.
Countries with more than one capital use the one from our capitals quizzes, such as Pretoria for South Africa and La Paz for Bolivia.
Panama, and Trinidad and Tobago, count as North America only: the usual boundary with South America is the border between Panama and Colombia.
