Explore Sweden’s twenty-one county seats
Travel from Luleå in Norrbotten to Malmö in Skåne, matching Sweden’s twenty-one counties with their county capitals. Each question combines a county outline with a marker for its seat. Start with ten questions or choose the full set of twenty-one.
Some pairs share a name, including Uppsala and Kalmar. Others need a separate memory link: Kronoberg uses Växjö, Dalarna uses Falun and Gotland uses Visby. Nearby-sounding Västmanland and Västernorrland pair with Västerås and Härnösand respectively.
Counties, provinces and regional offices
The quiz uses today’s counties, or län, rather than Sweden’s historical provinces, or landskap. A county capital here means its residensstad, the governor’s seat—not every city with a regional council office or county administration branch.
For Skåne the answer is Malmö, and for Västra Götaland it is Gothenburg. Göteborg is accepted too. Swedish accents are optional when typing, so you can enter names such as Östersund, Gävle and Nyköping without changing your keyboard.
