Nine provinces, nine provincial capitals

This round covers all nine South African provinces. Each question shows a province outline and a marker for its capital city. The full nine-question round is selected by default, so you can practise every pairing in one sitting.

Do not confuse provincial capitals with national capitals: Johannesburg is the capital of Gauteng, while Pretoria serves as South Africa’s national administrative capital. KwaZulu-Natal’s capital is Pietermaritzburg, not Durban.

Mbombela, Polokwane and Mahikeng are the names shown in this quiz. The older names Nelspruit, Pietersburg and Mafikeng are also accepted when typing, and Bhisho accepts the spelling Bisho.

Use the marker to connect the name with its location, from Cape Town in the southwest to Mbombela in the east. Switch from multiple choice to typed answers when you are ready to recall the capitals without options.
