How it works and sources

Every flag is split into the shapes it is drawn with: stripes, crosses, stars, circles and so on. Shapes can sit on top of each other (the Union Jack’s red cross lies on its white cross), and a tap paints the shape you can see under your finger.

One swatch stands for each colour family, so you never have to pick between shades: navy and sky blue are both Blue, crimson and maroon are both Red, gold is Yellow, and saffron is Orange. Your painted flag uses these swatches; the real flag is shown beside it after you check.

Scoring: each flag is worth 10 points, for the share of its parts painted the right colour (rounded), so a round of 10 flags scores up to 100. Rounds go through the flags in a fixed order, the best-known first, and your place is remembered on this device.
