The list, the names and sources
New York City has five boroughs, each also a county of New York State: Manhattan (New York County), Brooklyn (Kings County), Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island (Richmond County). Brooklyn has the most people, Queens the most land.
The county names count too, and you can leave out “The” in the Bronx. Small islands belong to their borough: Governors Island, Roosevelt Island and Randalls Island are part of Manhattan.
“Find on the map” names one place at a time: click it on the map. You get one click per name; a wrong click marks the place in red and moves on.
Borough outlines are the NYC Department of City Planning’s borough boundaries, with water areas left out (NYC Open Data, release 26b). The land around the city, in New Jersey, Westchester and Nassau County, comes from the US Census Bureau’s 2023 cartographic county boundaries (1:500,000, public domain), which stop at the state line in the Hudson River, so the river looks narrower than it is.
