Find Malaysia’s 13 states across two land areas

Malaysia’s states are split between Peninsular Malaysia and the island of Borneo. Eleven states are on the peninsula; Sabah and Sarawak are in East Malaysia. This quiz includes all 13 states, with the sea between the two parts helping you understand their relative positions.

Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan are federal territories rather than states. They are not answers in this round and appear in neutral shading. In particular, do not confuse Kuala Lumpur with the surrounding state of Selangor.

Learn the peninsula one coast at a time

On the east coast, work down through Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang. Johor occupies the southern end of the peninsula, while tiny Perlis is at the northern end. On the west coast, Penang is also known as Pulau Pinang and includes both an island and a mainland area.
