Connect each Indian state with its capital

Recognising a state is one skill; remembering its capital is another. Use the outline and location marker to connect places such as Gujarat and Gandhinagar, Assam and Dispur, or Telangana and Hyderabad. Choose a short ten-question round, then work up to all 28 states.

Which capital does each question expect?

Answer the city marked on the outline. We show Amaravati for Andhra Pradesh, Dehradun for Uttarakhand, Shimla for Himachal Pradesh and Mumbai for Maharashtra. Gairsain is Uttarakhand’s summer capital, Dharamshala is Himachal Pradesh’s second capital and Nagpur is Maharashtra’s winter capital, but those cities are not the markers in this round.

Chandigarh is the shared capital of Punjab and Haryana, so it appears as the correct answer for both states. It is itself a union territory and lies outside their outlines. This quiz does not include separate questions for India’s eight union territories or the national capital, New Delhi.

Common alternative names such as Bangalore for Bengaluru, Trivandrum for Thiruvananthapuram and Calcutta for Kolkata are accepted when typing.
