Reveal the Flag: Europe

A mystery flag hides under a grid of tiles, one tile for each country of the grid. Type any country and its tile opens, showing that piece of the flag. Name the country the flag belongs to and you win. Which country opens which tile is shuffled every round, so no country always opens the middle. A country with no tile in the grid (Brazil in the Europe grid) just gets a note. A challenge link replays the same flag with the same tiles, in any language.

Your score is the number of tiles still hidden when you name the flag: every country you type before it opens one tile, a wrong guess included. Name it with at least 85% of the tiles hidden for three stars, 65% for two; any named flag earns one. Give up or run out of time and you score 0.

Lookalike flags that differ in a detail (Ireland and Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal and Mali, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, Australia and New Zealand) can always be told apart by opening more tiles, and a wrong guess between them costs a tile, so a lucky guess is worth no more than opening the tile that settles it. Chad and Romania, and Indonesia and Monaco, look the same in our flags, so naming either one counts.

The easy world grid has 96 tiles, for the best-known countries, over one of the best-known third of the world’s flags, with 60 seconds. The hard one has a tile for every country (194) over one of the other flags, with 90 seconds. Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas have a tile for each country of the continent (as in our continent quizzes, without Kosovo, Palestine or Taiwan), over any of its flags.
