Find Ecuador’s 24 provinces, including Galápagos

This Ecuadorian provinces quiz includes all 24 provinces: 23 on the mainland and the island province of Galápagos. The islands are one answer, so clicking any mapped Galápagos island counts for the province.

Work across the country from the Pacific coast to the Andes and Amazon basin. Esmeraldas, Manabí and Guayas are useful coastal anchors. Pichincha contains Quito, while Azuay contains Cuenca; the map asks for their provinces rather than the cities themselves.

Learn the smaller mainland provinces

Do not overlook Santa Elena and Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, which are separate provinces. Around the central highlands, distinguish Cotopaxi, Tungurahua, Chimborazo and Bolívar. Farther east, the larger outlines of Pastaza, Orellana and Morona Santiago help you organise the Amazonian side of the map.

Galápagos lies well west of the mainland in the Pacific. Use zoom and pan for the compact mainland provinces, then zoom back out to reach the islands. Try ten questions for a short session or all 24 for the complete challenge.

How to play

Click the place named above the map. A correct first click earns three points; a second or third attempt earns two or one. After three mistakes, or if you skip, the answer highlights in red. Click it to continue and learn its position.

Use the zoom controls or pinch and drag for smaller areas. At the end, review the map, share your score or play again. Your best result is saved to My Progress.
