Match Colombia’s 32 departments with their capitals

This quiz goes beyond Colombia’s national capital to cover every department, including the Caribbean archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina. Bogotá’s Capital District is not counted as a thirty-third department.

Bogotá is nevertheless the expected capital for Cundinamarca, whose government is based there, even though the Capital District is administratively separate. Its marker therefore appears in the district’s gap within the surrounding department outline. This is a deliberate exception, not a misplaced capital.

Separate similar department names and learn the smaller capitals

Cauca and Valle del Cauca have different capitals: Popayán and Cali. Santander uses Bucaramanga, while Norte de Santander uses Cúcuta. In the southeast, Leticia, Mitú and Inírida belong to Amazonas, Vaupés and Guainía respectively.

The quiz accepts familiar full names such as Cartagena de Indias, Santiago de Cali and San José de Cúcuta. Accents are optional in typed answers. Choose ten questions for a short round, twenty-five for a longer test, or all thirty-two to practise every department.
