Find Chile’s 16 regions from north to south

Chile’s long, narrow shape makes regional order a useful memory aid. Start with Arica y Parinacota in the far north, followed by Tarapacá, Antofagasta and Atacama. Farther south, Coquimbo and Valparaíso lead towards the central regions around Santiago.

This quiz includes Ñuble as a separate region from Biobío. It also distinguishes Los Ríos from Los Lagos. Learning these pairs helps avoid using older regional maps that combine areas now represented by separate answers.

Use the coastline and neighbouring regions as clues

Santiago Metropolitan is inland, unlike many of Chile’s regions. South of the central regions, La Araucanía, Los Ríos and Los Lagos lead towards Aysén and Magallanes. The southern coastline becomes a network of channels and islands, but each region still counts as one answer.

The playable view shows continental Chile and nearby islands. Remote Pacific islands, including Rapa Nui, and Antarctic claims are outside this view; all 16 regions remain represented. Zoom and pan to distinguish narrow central regions, then try a complete round after practising ten at a time.

How to play

Click the place named above the map. A correct first click earns three points; a second or third attempt earns two or one. After three mistakes, or if you skip, the answer highlights in red. Click it to continue and learn its position.

Use the zoom controls or pinch and drag for smaller areas. At the end, review the map, share your score or play again. Your best result is saved to My Progress.
