River length data and source

Uses the archived CIA World Factbook World entry's top ten longest rivers, checked 14 September 2026. Lengths are approximate kilometres. Named combinations such as Mississippi-Missouri are measured as a river system, not just one named section.

River lengths depend on the chosen headwater, mouth and measurement method. This dataset places the Nile first and Amazon second; alternative measurements can reverse them. The game uses one consistent published list, not a claim that every length is undisputed.

Flags indicate locations along the main river or named headwater system, including border reaches, not every country in its drainage basin. Their order is a geographic cue, not a measured ranking of national shares.

The CIA retired the Factbook in February 2026. The original government data are preserved in the CC0-licensed factbook.json archive.
